Dr Musa said:

“They (officials) are expected to declare all their assets at the point of exit, at the point of leaving office. That’s what the law says. They will submit the forms when leaving the office, you cannot submit assets declaration forms while in office.
‘’So, it is at the point of entrance and point of exit. That is what the constitution says, that is what the Code of Conduct Bureau Act says under section 15. The same thing applies to those who are about to come into government but they have three months to declare.’’

CCB Reveals Date Buhari, Osinbajo & Ministers Will Publicly Declare Their Assets Before Leaving

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the 44 ministers in the Federal Executive Council will soon start declaring their assets ahead of May 29 when their tenure will end. Outgoing public office holders must declare assets by May 29, CCB official revealed.

Dr. Mustapha Musa, the Special Adviser to the Chairman of CCB on General Duties, has confirmed to The PUNCH on Sunday that arrangements have been made to issue asset forms to both outgoing officials and their successors.

In compliance with the 1999 constitution, the Code of Conduct Bureau will provide asset declaration forms to the outgoing presidential aides, 28 state governors and their cabinet members, National Assembly and state assembly members, and local government chairmen. These public officers are required by law to declare their assets and liabilities at the beginning and end of their tenure, and submit the forms to the CCB accordingly.

However, the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, the vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima and 28 incoming governors and their cabinet members as well as the state assembly members have three months to submit their assets forms to the CCB.

According to the Chairman’s aide at CCB, officials in question must collect the asset declaration forms from the CCB office and disclose all assets, including money, landed property, vehicles, shares, bonds, and their sources. Dr. Musa clarified that these officials are required by law to declare all their assets when leaving office and submit the forms at that time, as it is not permitted to submit asset declaration forms while still in office.

Oba of Benin Suspends Duke over misconduct

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on Sunday suspended Gregory Akenzua, as the Enogie (Duke) of Evbuobanosa Dukedom in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

In a statement signed by Mr Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Chief Press Secretary to Oba Ewuare 11, the Palace carried out the action after allegations emerged claiming that the Enogie lead a rebellion against the Benin throne.

The statement said “the Enogie’s suspension arose from several complaints and protests against him by elders across the six communities in Evbuobanosa Dukedom.

“These comprised Evbuobanosa, Abudu, Igue-Ohenza, Idu-dolor, Iru and Evbuohen.”

It said the palace endorsed the communities’ protest letter for the Enogie’s suspension following his refusal to heed fellow Enigies’s call to apologise to the Royal Father.

The statement said “the elders indicted Prof. Akenzua for colluding with the suspended Enogie of Egbaen-Siluko Dukedom, Edomwonyi Iduozee Ogiegbaen of misconduct, failure to perform his duties and allegation of attempted ploy to organise a revolt against the Benin throne.”

It said that Akenzua allegedly led delegation of Enigie to Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo in November 2022

According to the statement, the delegation went to see the governor requesting the government to constitute a parallel Benin Traditional Council (BTC) for seven Local government Areas in Edo South Senatorial district, with outright disrespect and disregard to the Palace, thereby fuelling agitations to balkanize Benin Kingdom.

“Addressing the elders from the communities in his palace at the weekend, Oba Ewuare II highlighted the trust deficit among the Enogie’s fold that stirred emotions that transcend logic.

“I want everyone to hear this that some Dukes the Palace sent to represent the the throne are behaving funny.

‘Why can’t we call or invite them to answer the complaints? They have also resolved never to retrace their steps from the path of perfidy”, Oba Ewuare II said.

“Elders you have all heard all that have been said.

“Look after the area. Do not fight. Don’t allow anyone to fight or quarrel or entertain any form of disagreement or division among you.”

Earlier, spokespersons from the various communities, conveyed their regrets to the Oba’s palace and appealed to Oba Ewuare to strip Prof. Akenzua of traditional duties for insubordination.
